Chhaava starring Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna, has emerged as the first major Bollywood hit of 2025, achieving substantial box office success within its opening week. On Day 7, the film experienced a 31.25% decline in collections, bringing in ₹22 crore net in India, following a strong ₹32 crore earned on the previous day.
Vicky Kaushal led Chhaava races towards Rs 300 cr at Box Office
Despite this drop, the historical drama directed by Laxman Utekar has maintained robust performance, accumulating a total domestic collection of Rs 219.75 crore since its release. The film, produced by Maddock Films, has been declared tax-free in Madhya Pradesh and Goa, which is expected to further boost its earnings. The occupancy rate for “Chhaava” on Day 7 was recorded at 27.96% nationwide, with significant regional variations. In Mumbai, where the film was screened over 1,400 times, occupancy reached 43.5%. In Pune, with more than 730 shows, occupancy climbed to around 59%. However, the Delhi-NCR region saw a lower occupancy of approximately 16%.
Given that “Chhaava” narrates the life of the Maratha warrior Sambhaji Maharaj, expectations for higher collections in regions with a strong Maratha presence were met, reflecting its cultural resonance. Both of these films capitalized on the Diwali holiday rush, whereas “Chhaava” achieved its impressive figures without such seasonal advantages.
In terms of global box office metrics, Chhaava grossed Rs 270 crore within its first six days, which includes Rs 33 crore from international markets and Rs 236.85 crore from India alone. Overall, Chhaava marks a milestone in Vicky Kaushal’s career, becoming his most successful film as a leading hero to date. Alongside Kaushal and Mandanna, the film features Akshaye Khanna in a pivotal role, contributing to its successful narrative and commercial appeal.
With no major Hindi films scheduled for release in the upcoming weeks, Chhaava is well-positioned to continue its box office dominance. This week, Arjun Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, and Rakul Preet Singh’s Mere Husband Ki Biwi are set to hit theatres. Vicky Kaushal-led actioner might face a box office clash with Arjun Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, and Rakul Preet Singh’s rom-com.
